The Church
What is the church? I can remember when I was younger being reprimanded for setting a Bible in the floor because I was mistreating the word of God. I also remember being told that I should not run in the church because it is disrespectful to the house where God lives, but is the church building really the house of God? Is the building the church?
To this we must emphatically say no! The church is not the building the church is the people. 1 Corinthians 6:19 says, "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?" God dwells in his people not in a church building, and because he dwells in his people his desire is that we love one another. 1 John 4:11 says, "Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another."
So often in churches and youth groups we see people arguing with one another, talking about other people- even people we call our friends. God calls us to live in love and peace, yet we walk out of our churches and we say things that will hurt our Christian friends. Furthermore, as I was reprimanded when I was younger for mistreating the church building, no one seems to mind how we are treating the true church, except for those who are getting hurt. What is the church? Friends, think before you speak badly about a friend, especially a Christian friend. Remember that Christ lives in them as well. All Christians are part of one family, and we have the same ultimate purpose to glorify God.
